Hello!
I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina and have come to this Forum after many years being a member of Ship Nostalgia. I am retired and my hobbies are anything to do with air/sea/road transportation. I look forward to being a part of this Forum.

Welcome, Speedbird.
Do you have Airline experience? Your handle is the British Airways callsign. Tell us some of your stories about your activities with transport (even if just as a passenger) and any unusual stories that might entertain us. I'll start off with a photograph:- http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...n/82c57afc.jpg |

Hi Speedbird!
A very warm welcome from the (usually) sunny Isle of Anglesey! I once spoke to "Speedbird Three" once when I was on the channel 16 desk at work. |

Thank you G6 UXU, Ian, G-CPTN, Coastie and robertdavy 6 for your messages.
And yes, "Speedbird" is borrowed from BA although I never had direct contact with the airline other than being a passenger on many of their flights to/from South America. Actually my first-ever flight was on a BSAA Lancastrian from London to Buenos Aires in 1946 (aged 8), a 3-day trip in those days compared to 14 hours today. My interest in transportation started at that early age, engine spotting at Okehampton (Devon) station, and which later included ships (travelling several times Buenos Aires/UK/Buenos Aires) and commercial aircraft. I also worked for many years in the travel industry here in Argentina including, for a short time, a tour bus company where i drove a bus on occasions. Unfortunately I did not have a camera, so the only photos of local town and long distance buses I have are those taken from the Internet which, I presume, I am not allowed to download. Anyway, I look forward to being a member of this forum. Thank you all! |

How different things are today from when you were first travelling!
Nowadays almost everybody would carry some sort of photographic apparatus (even if they didn't choose to use it). I've taken to carrying a small digital camera in my pocket (as well as my digital SLR in my backpack whenever I am out walking). It means that I can always record events (assuming that I have time to get out the camera and switch it on of course). I still miss significant events, though. |

Unfortunately, where I live, it is really risky to use even a small pocket camera because: a) it will most probably be snatched before you can even aim it, and/or b) people are generally suspicious of someone taking photos, even if it is of a bus!
