New crash tender for Manchester Airport.

As reported elsewhere, Manchester Airport is acquiring a new 'huge fire engine'.

I cannot find any details of this (yet). The existing machines are 3-axle Reynolds Boughton Barracuda / Carmichael Cobra 2s I believe.

However, during my search I found:-
Quote:
Rosenbauer ‘Panther’ 8×8 unit. It weighs nearly 40 tons, and has a capacity of 3,830 gallons (14,500 liters) of fire extinguishing agents and a maximum speed of 87 mph (140 km/h).
(there is no suggestion that this is what Manchester Airport have chosen)

I wonder what the parameters are for Manchester's new appliance?

Quote from BBC -

One of the engines has a new 30m extending ladder which can be pulled out over inflated emergency exit chutes, enabling fire fighters to reach levels that conventional ladders don't reach. The improvements all add up to the airport being certified as 'Category 10' airport by the Civil Aviation Authority (one of only 17 airports in the world with this distinction) a fortnight before the plane makes its debut landing in Manchester.
That means, not only can it handle the A380, but it can also welcome other 'Code F' aeroplanes.

That's just a 'conventional' turntable ladder rather than a specialised crash tender . . .

Is it true that an airport must have at least two working fire engines or nothing flies in/out.

From a (retired) Air Traffic Controller:-
Quote:
If it's a licenced airfield it'll be laid down in the licence what cover they must provide. If it falls below the specified minimum then Operations are stopped or at least severely curtailed.
An unlicensed (private) strip may however have none although a Landie with a couple of buckets of water is always a good idea.
