Typing one incorrect letter into his sat nav caused a coach driver to take children 123km (77 miles) the wrong way.

A similar thing happened, to a visiting wagon driver, with Pool (in Wharfedale), Yorkshire and, Poole, Dorset. Then, there are various ones that are spelt the same, like Gillingham, Kent andDorset.

Ah you don't need a SatNav for that. I came out of a service area last year in heavy rain and got onto the wrong carriageway of the expressway. Was about 30km before I realised and another almost 30 before I could get off and turn round. Stupid me: 30 + 30 and then the same 60 back in the right direction = 120km of useless distance.

Hmm! I have an interesting story I can't tell about these towns from a Coastguard point of view.

I believe my p.m. box is uncluttered.

Heading down to Carlisle for the first time in my new job the SatNav took me into a service area and back out and then 100 metres later told me to turn right - on the M6!
