Newbie

Hi,

I worked most of my life in the UK construction industry, some of the driving trucks. At 18 years old it was Thames Traders, later when I turned 21 it was Morris 5 tonners. In between times I drove lorry mounted cranes around London, all types of construction equipment including tunnel boring machines. The last truck I drove was an 1950s ? ERF KV 7 tonner fitted with a 5 pot Gardner engine, this was for Charles Brand and Son, now I've just seen a photo of the truck on Flickr taken 2012, the truck looks fully restored and is painted in the livery of Chas Brand and Son. I'd love to make contact with the owner and give him some of the history on his truck.

Any help gratefully recieved, Byard

Welcome, Byard.

Do you have the registration number so that 'we' can do some research for you?

Thanks for the welcome.

I've just checked the restored trucks photo and the number plates been blanked off, I can't remember the number it was back in the 70s!!!

I was just so amazed to see my old truck looking better than when I drove it. Chas Brand also had a 14 ton, 8 legger ERF and a Scammel unit the trailer was a tanker chassis with a flat bed body, plus they had a low loader trailer.

I've searched using ERF (with and without KV) together with Brand, but failed to find anything other than this:-

Yes thats the photo I found, I think its great as Charles Brand was taken over by the Kier Group in 1971 and the truck was sold to Watts of Lydney who were Leyland dealers. They

Thanks were going to fit it out as a breakdown/wrecker truck. The new owner has got the livery/sign writing just right, though I'd love to see what address is on the cab door. In my time with Brands they moved head office from Charles 11 St London to Welbeck St London.

Thanks, Byard

Thanks for that, It could well be Charles 11 St SW1 as Welbeck St is in W1.

I went back to the photos and found another ERF this ones a 68GX belonging to Richard Reads of Longhope Glos. Have sent them an email as there ERF main dealers and a transport firm. There base is about 8 miles from Watts of Lydney to whom my old truck was sold, they may have some info.
