Surely the medical for the HGV will cover this.

It seems drivers will be able to choose whether to take the £80 tests or declare themselves fit to drive every decade.

If you self-declare do you get paid £80?

Think you will need to keep the money for a medical anyway as this could go the same way as automatic MOT, number plate and Insurance checks -

http://www.thamesvalley.police.uk/ne...anpr/index.htm

The Police can pull you over for a number of reasons, are they going to add this medical thing to a checkable database and any 'self-certified as fit' drivers will be targeted and will the Police have powers to enforce something like - 'you need a medical we are not convinced you are fit to drive'.

Looks like I will Have to buy a seperate credit card sized wallet soon just to able to work.
Drivers Licence / Drivers CPC Licence / Drivers Digital Tacograph Card /ADR Card / Hiab Licence / Railway Card and so on. All of which we have to purchase just so that we can work. Oh and not forgetting the medical fees as well.

I don't think that you can self declare. Because they will not believe what you tell them. They will force you to make health checks to ensure the safety when you drive on streets. So you have to pay money for health checks ,even though you don't want.
