Speeding

From Consultation papers -

If adopted, the proposal - first mooted four years ago - would see these "anti-social drivers" who drive more than 20mph over the speed limit automatically given six points.

Being caught twice at such speeds would mean 12 points and an automatic disqualification from driving.

The point was made on BBC Radio Five that breaking a motorway 50mph speed limit by driving at 70mph would invoke the new penalty just as much as driving at 50mph in a 30mph zone.

There would have to ensure the speed signage is clear and free from obstructions.
I wished I had my camera with me at the time but a little village I passed through early this year had a 30 mph sign on the left and a 40 mph sign on the right, it may have been kids at work but it did look genuine. Another one was they had put 20 mph signs up and left the 30 mph road markings.

You can imagine what a catastrophe it would be if they brought the 20mph back on the roads( A & B class) today, one bloke in a motoring magazine made a comment about trucks on the m/ways passing each other in the central lane causing the poor car drivers to back up on each other in the fast lane and said that all trucks and coaches should be kept in the slow lane between 6am and 7pm and award 6 points if caught not applying to the rules, thats worse than the law keeping HGVs down to 56mph on m/ways--I bet he was an MP or once a year m/way user.
