Scrapping vehicles
Whilst on the way to work this morning there was a Lorry parked in a layby and on its back there was about eight or so frontends of vehicles including engines. From what I could see there were citroens and a few 4x4s and maybee a couple of others. Maybee coastie or Mr-Tomcat have seen it as it was still there this evening they were basicly complete frontends just chopped by the dashboard. Is it legal these days? or do you have to dispose of the whole shell at a scrapyard? I wonder where they are taking them to? They were coming from Ireland are there different rules for scrapping vehicles in Ireland?

Thanks for info G-CPTN so why would you think they chopped a complete frontend off a vehicle and transport somewere else, and they werent even old vehicles. Ive seen commercials chopped in this manner for export but never ordinary cars and 4x4s.

Breaking for spares.
Most cars nowadays are front-wheel drive, so the major components are concentrated ahead of the windscreen, the rest being just seats and bodywork (apart from the rear axle of course). Vehicle dismantlers will concentrate on the engine and transmission, whilst if selling simply for scrap weight then why transport the lighter stuff? |

I should have taken a photo of it. I t was so weird as on the top there was a citroen C5 from afar looked a convertible example but on closer inspection was just the front end. as you say all the major components are up front so makes sense!
