Leylands made in Israel

Hi there,

Leyland had an assembly plant in Israel during the 1963-1971 period, when it was granted a state-approved monopoly for its vehicles. Actually, trucks and bus chassis were assembled locally between 1962 and 1977.
An interesting episode took place in the early days of this operation. Leyland was obliged to install locally-made cabs, while the market demanded bonneted ones. For its Chieftain-Clydesdale range, Leyland had neither.
