 Leyland Bus Prefixes

This is something that's baffled me for a long time, I'm sure someone on the forum will be able to tell me.
What does the prefix /12 - /40 etc. mean when identifying Leyland buses as PD2/12 - PD2/40 etc. |

These numbers were used to show different variations in the various chassis types. They related to matters such as transmissions/gearboxes, width, braking and even whether the radiator was 'open' or enclosed by a 'new-look' front, whether a metal or fibreglass.
The list is rather long to go into in detail, I'm afraid. This applied to most models issued by Leyland until the BL days. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for those answers to my question.
Rob, I can understand why it would have been difficult to explain them all, at least I have some idea of what they mean now. That's a whole load of information about Leyland G-CPTN, I enjoyed reading all about the history of it all. Thanks very much to both of you. |
