Hi, I have at last joined the forum due to my friend G6 UXU. I am an ex Leyland Trucks (current day name) electrical design engineer who has now retired from them after 40 years of service.
For those that dont know, there is a superb commercial vehicle museum in my home town, Leyland.
There is some real old Leyland beauty's on display, well worth a visit.

I hope that you will regale us with accounts of what you have achieved over the forty years. My first design item was a rubber grommet to surround a steering column lock. Later I progressed to design complete braking systems . . .

I don’t remember my first design, but I remember doing 0-9 and A-Z in lines on the drawing board. Supervisor pulled it to pieces, do it again, all day.
Various harnesses for the chassis/engine, harnesses and chassis related parts and brackets, etc were my domain. Also cab parts, connector interfaces, lighting etc. All good fun

Ah! I learned my drawing at Uni, so I started-off detailing and then designing.

Wiring harnesses were buggahs! I never did any at work, but I draughted one for my 1936 MG and then made it from scratch (using all the correct colour-coded wires and bullet connectors) laying it out on the living-room floor and binding it with harness tape. I did have a schematic from the handbook to work from (as well as the original harness).

I was in mechanical design and soon specialised in suspensions.

The clever blokes did exhaust systems.

Later (much later) I progressed to gearshifts.
