It seems that the vehicle is (was?) a Citroen C4 which has button-release for the parking brake. I don't know how the brake is applied (ie handlever or footpedal). The young lassie said that she tried to apply the brake, but did she know how (at her age) and did she have enough strength? The vehicle was 'parked' on a slope.

Edited to add it's probably a Picasso - that has "Automatic electric parking brake"

I don't know how the handbrake is applied on a model of car like this, I can only assume it's not the usual way. Maybe an "Umbrella" type?

To be fair though, the car looks to be in relatively good condition considering what it's been through!
