Bus drivers' movements monitored

More than 9,000 buses in England and Scotland are to be fitted with sensors which assess how smoothly the vehicle is being driven.

I thought this might have scatological undertones . . .

I have been driven (as a passenger) by some extremely smooth bus-drivers (and I don't mean their character), some of who have also been 'quick'.

I caught a bus that started 20 minutes late (delayed arrival of the vehicle). During the journey the driver accelerated at full throttle and 'kept moving' through traffic as quickly as he could - yet the movement was smooth and none of the other passengers realised anything out of the ordinary. He even slowed down for the speed cameras, but he never jumped a traffic-light or committed any misdemeanour (other than speeding, and that was 'reasonable' - ie never close to parked vehicles where there might have been children).

By the end of the run he had made-up the lost time. I complimented him on his performance (and told him that I would have been pleased to have employed him as one of my test drivers).
