Yes I intend to.

As for propaganda or not the first motorway coaches the CM5's were capable of 85 mph laden - the later CM6 I have heard stories from two different sources of them blasting along at 120 when empty.

Nov 3rd is the big day- 50 years since the opening of the M1 from London to Watford Gap. There are plans to re-create the run with the preserved motorway vehicles.

I wasn't doubting the figures (though some will). I guess there were as many who underquoted as overquoted.
Back in the 60s I was running test vehicles on M1 and sometimes achieving 'unbelievable' speeds . . .

I'll be interested to read about the exercise (and why it ended).

OK I could Google it, but I'd prefer to hear it from someone who knows.

Later this year there will be a DVD issued with archive film of the development of the CM5T, its testing at MIRA, where it was the first large vehicle to be allowed to use the outside track on the banked course and also film taken on the CM5T on the journey from both in and out. Incredible as it may seem in these H & S days, there is an interview with a technician who travelled to London in the boot to find out, why there was a water leak.
When developing these vehicles Midland Red contacted Greyhound and German coach companies running on Autobahns, only to find the maximum speed these companies attained was 55mph!

Incidentally on Sunday,26 April, BBC Radio WM are going to be featuring Midland Red memories, for a hour from 10-11am on Professor Carl Chinn's radio show. They have a listen online feature on the BBCWM website.
