Bedford MK 4x4 gearbox
Hi
Could someone please assist me with the following problem? My Bedford MK 4x4 truck will not stay in 2nd gear, what could the problem be and how would I fix it. |
Here are my thoughts and I'm NOT an expert -
1. First check the gear linkage. If you are very lucky you'll find that is is worn and simply not engaging the gear properly. 2. Next pull the top/side of the box and examine the selector forks. If you are quite lucky one or more will be worn thin and not engaging the gear properly 3. If it is neither of the above you are unlucky and it is due to wear in the box and it needs a rebuild. You could just hold it in gear and I have seen a bungy cord used to keep it in gear if you need it in second for a long time. This is a temporary solution. |
Thanks Mylesdw
We have been holding it in gear while driving, but yesterday it gave up by leaking oil and making grinding noises. It now has to be rebuilt. Are there any manuals that can be viewed online that would assist me? |
I cannot find any online source for the manual.
I have one - I will consider photographing the pages - but I need to wait for daylight (it is 10 pm here now. |
Thank you, that would be of great help to me.
|
Sorry, I had other things to attend to today - I will try again tomorrow.
|
Check your PMs, Gavin.

I'm puzzled - I created a site where Gavin could access the photocopies of the pages of the Bedford MK 4x4 gearbox strip-and-rebuild, but he seems to have disappeared.
