In late 1980 early 81 when I was doing my RAF Regiment Gunner training at the RAF Regiment Depot at what was once RAF Catterick, Green Goddesses were operating out of there during the Fire Service strike, manned by RAF Regiment Gunners of 58 Field Sqn and the RAF Firefighters on the training section. Back then RAF Regiment and RAF Fire Service both belonged to the same Wing of the RAF.

The five-litre straight-six petrol engines do 8-12mpg depending on whether you use four- or two-wheel drive and they'll top 60mph given time.
For fire-fighting there is a still-impressive 900-gallon per minute Sigmund fire pump and an additional Coventry Climax lightweight pump.
