More seriously, how about something along the lines of the U.S. Police "Ten-Codes"?Then, they would only need to learn the numbers.

10-24-9= Gale (Force9)

10-34-10 Heavy seas (10m. waves) etc.

You honestly wouldn't think that these days when at the end of a Mayday and we're declaring that the 16 channel is open again for routine calling we have to say "Seelonce Finnee"!
