Down Turn

A curiosity question, I have been taking pictures off the bridge, over the A55 just outside Holyhead for a few months now. When I started the lorry traffic off the ship seemed to be quite busy, lately; I can go and get only a minimal amount of pictures. I know that Chris, like myself haunts a bridge, is it just me that thinks it's gone quiet or is it nation wide.

Andy.

About 12,000 independent shops and nearly 7,000 branches of major chains have closed so far this year in England and Wales, according to research.

Margate in Kent is the worst hit town, with a rate of 25%. Cities in the north of England like Leeds and Liverpool also have rates of more than 20%.

At 22%, Derby has the highest retail vacancy rate of any major urban centre, with Wolverhampton close behind.

The south of England generally fared better, with only Croydon and Exeter featuring among the 10 worst town centres with vacancy rates of 15.4% and 14.9% respectively.

In central London, 12.8% of shops are empty.

You are absolutely spot on there Andy, we have been saying for the last few weeks that there is a marked decrease in trucks going up and down the M6, and we have seen over the years that it was gradually going quieter. We also used to see between two and three hundred Stobarts trucks a day and that has gone down has well. And what about the T cabs I have not seen one this week.

Although the downturn will be having an impact don’t forget that the increasing use of rail freight will be removing lorries from the road as well.

Again this week, I have noticed that I take very little photo's due to the small amount of lorries and coaches coming off the ferries. Chris would you believe, that of the few thousand pictures I've taken off the bridge not one T Cab have I caught, actualy I missed one and caught it up later.

They seem to be getting rarer by the day Andy, the last picture I uploaded of a T cab was the first one I had seen in a fortnight, all the best.
