HGV licences

Seeing new member Norbert's post, saying he'd had his licence for 30 years, got me wondering. How many members currently hold a validHGV/PSV (or both!) licence and, for how long? Also, how many are currently using those licences regularly?

I allowed mine to lapse in the 1980s when I ceased having the need.

Three years after my heart problems I decided to let my class one go, that was in 2003 after a total of 33 years of holding one.

I first got my old class 2 in 1971 - passed a class 1 a year or so later, then my PSV when I started working in the bus industry in 1986. They appear to still be valid untill I am 70 in 3 years time - but I can't drive for hire or reward. The only thing I drive now is a Sprinter mini-bus as a volunteer for a local pensioners club. I wont say on a public forum how old I was when I first got behind the wheel - but it was a bit younger than the law allowed.

The only licence I hold is my motorcycle licence.
Had it since 1973, with two short breaks inbetween.

holding hgv class 1

Hello all,i had my first HGV1 ISSUED ON 01/11/1970 i was granted it by[grand farther rights] as i had been driving lorries,artics,28tons G.T.W. for two years before the law came in to take a test so we were excempt me and many others. good old B.R.S.and the union they got the concesition.
i allso had it taken away in july 2002 ,no redress ,no police action,no wrong-doing.a optician, then a doctor.within 2 hours..true,, i had had a T.I.A. [BLODD VESSELS BROKEN IN THE BACK OF MY EYES] so it is classed as a stroke, but its not a stroke.and you do not know you have had it thats the worst of it..it stops you from driving hgvs, i had tests etc however the DVLA WILL NOT TAKE THE CHANCE.I still drive my car no prob allways did when when it happened . i had a good job BOWKERS Preston .i could have worked in the yard etc but who wanted that.so i retired early.
