More help with my VAL

Hi, as previously posted I have lost 3rd gear in my Bedford VAL.

I've cleaned through the years of grime and discovered info on the gearbox. The lines read:

522K18 L
J13(or 5, can't tell)07
5 11 9 (possibly a date? It's on a small pressed on plate)
2

Also is a logo that looks like a V on top of a W inside a Hexagon shape?

Midlands and Mr. Motorparts have both remarked that it's a Leyland box (from the first part no.) and that they can't help with a replacement box, although Mr. Motorparts said he might be able to help with a specific broken part.

Does anybody have any experience with this box? What sort of job am I looking at to break it down to find the fault? Does anyone know where I might find one of these boxes to replace, or at least what Leyland vehicles they were commonly fitted to?

Once again, any help is greatly appreciated.

I do not recognise the part numbers that you quote, and I don't believe that Bedford fitted 'Leyland' gearboxes to VALs even though early models were fitted with the Leyland engine.

I can only repeat my earlier information:- http://www.truckandbusforum.com/arch...hp/t-3822.html

and recommend that you invest $15 in a copy of the workshop manual for the Eaton six-speed gearbox:- Bedford.E.N.V.Transmission type 542 SMOT.Service training manual.TS844.
from:- http://www.mark.clubaustin.co.uk/commercials.htm
or:-
010843 Bedford E.N.V. Transmission Type 542 SMOT Service Training Manual (photocopy), 12 pages, $15.00
from:- http://www.ploughbooksales.com.au/54.htm

$15 doesn't seem like too much to pay if it confirms that your gearbox is indeed a six speed ENV.

Hope this helps.
