Truck Cameras

Volvo believes they are the first truck manufacturer in Europe to develop a system that uses a camera to monitor the vehicle's course in relation to the road markings. Using ‘Driver Alert Support’, if a driving pattern is perceived as irregular, the driver is alerted by an audible signal and a text message in the driver information display. If the irregular pattern continues, the driver is cautioned to stop and take a break.

Is there not another in truck camera to eye scanning system in the pipeline, the drivers eye movements are scanned for the first few miles and after that if your eye movements are irregular and slow down it triggers an alarm.

Good idea, but I hope the warning is loud and specific enough to alert the sleepers, you will all I expect, have tried to wake someone, doing the 'white line wander', I expect. It can be hard.

We had a driver who 'slept' at the wheel of a coach for almost an hour (more than 50 minutes that we knew of - he failed to appear at 'break' and so a 'scout' was sent out to check that he was OK).
Fortunately, he was driving on a banked circular track . . .

(so any variation in speed would have resulted in adjustment of position up or down the banking)
