Q: Bedford TCZ-7 (1961)

What engine would there have been in a 1961 Bedford TCZ-7? Please include info on cyls and hp's, I'm not a tech geek. Thanks.

Either 4 cylinder 220 cu in diesel, 6 cylinder 300 cu in petrol or 6 cylinder 330 cu in diesel.

I do not recognize the TC designation - what is the complete chassis number?

I answered on the basis of engine options available in 1961.

The Z indicates that the chassis was supplied without a cab, so it would have been fitted with the bodywork by a bodybuilder.

Dedicated bus chassis available in 1961 were SB, VAS, VAL, and VAM, so anything else would have been a truck chassis.

Does your vehicle have a bonnet (hood)? If not it could be a J3 converted to forward control.

Chassis number is KCZ7-10702. Here is the vehicle, a Finnish bus, with a mainly wooden body built by local Finnish bodybuilder Lahti.

Wheelbase is 3.43, which seems rather odd compared to other Bedford trucks I have been able to look up.

3.43 metres (135 inches) is the standard wheelbase for a KC truck chassis.

You can see (from the photograph) the Bedford TK 'cowl'.

The 7 digit indicates that it was fitted with a 200 cu in 4 cylinder diesel engine (the fore-runner of the 220 cu in diesel engine). My fault for assuming it would be the 220 (which replaced the 200 in 1961 so you seem to have one of the last 200s)!

57 b.h.p. at 2,600 and 139 lb.-ft. at 1,400 r.p.m were the figures for the 200 engine.
