I wasn't referring to 'fully' automatic (though I have driven an Allison - DDAD 8V-71 38 ton 6x4 plus drawbar - great fun, especially on skidpans), but automated shift.
Anyway in
my time all big trucks were crash-boxes - synchromesh was for little local delivery trucks only.
