Singapore's Berliet Bus

Interesting (to me) post here:

Note the 'half' conversion from LHD to RHD (except the gear stick)

Hmmmm - an interesting compromise (bodge-up?).

It's not clear if the conversion was done by Berliet or the coachbuilder. Interesting though that only those few years ago manufacturers didn't always offer both LHD and RHD versions.

Berliet (especially buses) didn't really feature outside of France (and their colonies) until they were absorbed into Renault.

Jet powered...
The cabover version (No.4) looks impressive.

It was experimentally fitted with a Turbomeca jet engine in 1962, but fuel consumption was excessive, so the conventional diesel engine was fitted again.
Leyland's gas-turbine engined truck suffered from similar excessive fuel-consumption (even on motorways) at a time when fuel costs were rising steeply.

The rise in fuel costs resulted in Vauxhall ditching their OHC V8 engine (a double version of the slant-four engine) and the associated luxury limousine model saloon.

IIRC that was the engine which was originally intended for my VX 4/90 (OCC 608M)
