Registrations
I have found lately when people put a picture on G-C adds info on the registration, explaining the wider picture so to speak, this I find interesting, I hope this link will be helpfull to some also. http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/24032010/36...e-plate-0.html

I get my information from two sources:-
http://www.wolfbane.com/vreg.htm https://www.mycarcheck.com/ The latter sometimes needs the cookies to be cleared in order to continue 'asking' - though by 'backspacing' from a successful search you can usually start again without problems. My basic recognition of the original registration letters is something that I was indoctrinated in by my father from as long as I can remember. Of course most of these are regional and restricted to the North East, though the obvious inclusion of the letter S indicated Scotland and, when I was at grammar school I 'learned' the registrations of the cars used by the teachers (though I'm not always able to recall these nowadays). At one stage the AA members handbook included a table of registration locations. I contribute the registrations so that other members can share the information (and maybe begin to learn these letters for themselves). |
Speaking of registrations, if, like me, you're wondering what is going to happen in September when the new reg's come about, it turns out that the number will be 60, then in Sept 2011, 61, Sep 2012, 62 etc!

Morning G-C / Chris, registrations have always been a interesting subject for me, I like to see the ads in E & M I can sit down and read them for hours.

I use an older copy of the Observers Books that you used to be able to buy, the later ones stopped having registrations in them. Still look for these books at shows and boot sales.

AA members' handbooks used to include details of registration origins.
Do you remember the inch-thick book that included maps as well as maintenance hints? IIRC it was originally grey with board covers, then it turned yellow with 'paperback' covers - then it disappeared . . . Tell youngsters today and they wouldn't believe you! |
I remember them, my Dad always had them.
