Super singles or Maxis?
 
I was at a council meeting last night where the discussion of damage to rural roads by timber haulage vehicles was being discussed.

I thought that I was pretty-well-informed about such matters, but I was thrown by references to super-sixes and maxi tyres, with the allegation that super-sixes caused more damage to road surfaces than maxi tyres.

These comments were made by a highway officer of the council, so I have to credit him with some understanding, but it seems that there might be some confusion (if only by myself).

It evolved that the major benefit WRT kindness to roads involves tyre-pressure control-systems - or central-tyre-inflation (at a trailer on-cost of £10,000 - with which I am familiar and agree about the benefits) but it was the insistence that 'super-six' (which another councillor referred-to as super singles) trailers were 'bad' and that 'maxi tyres' were 'good'.

To me, maxi tyres would be super singles, so would super-sixes be twins on three axles?

So, my question is - what are maxi-tyres when applied to timber-haulage trailers?
