I'm not Elfin' Safety would allow even the Military to use those, today.
(Assuming they weren't obsolete, of course.)
I once saw a vehicle towed backwards, in a similar fashion to that rigid was. The steering was left free and the front end swung out and hit another vehicle, during a turn.
Surely, having it lashed is better?
