One dead after bus ran through crowd

The central part of Lund was closed yesterday because of a big water leak in the district heating pipes.
Hot water ran along the streets and the city were covered in steam.
Suddenly a rerouted bus ran past the police block and on to the sidewalk, where it hit several people.
A 65 year old man on a bike was killed in the accident and three women were rushed to hospital, one of them with serious, but not life threatening injuries.
It is still not clear why the bus drove at high speed on the sidewalk.
A police investigation has started and the bus will be investigated. The driver is under suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, grievous bodily harm and reckless driving but during investigation the charges can be changed.

Ahh, the District Heating Scheme! We used to have one of those when I lived in Shetland. (I tried to get one set up here, but typical Anglesey Council, they're not interested.)

We have that like everywhere in Sweden (at least in bigger towns and cities). Here where I live Stena Fastigheter even have their own heating plant (so it's not a district heating, its local heating). Common fuel is waste. A lot of the plants also produce electricity.

Parts of rural Denmark (Funen) had their district heating heated by local boilers fuelled by straw.
Odense has had a 'central' district heating scheme since 1929.

Condolences to the Man's Family.

Today the driver was found not guilty as the court could not find evidence that the bus did get a failure on the accelerator. The driver claimed that the bus accelerated even if he did not press the accelerator. Other drivers told the court that the bus model, with CNG engine, have had cases of stuck accelerators.
The investigation of the bus did not find any faults but as it could not be ruled out that it HAD a failure at the time of the accident, the driver was found not guilty.

The converse (had the driver been declared guilty) would have been potentially unfair (to the driver).

Yes. I agree.
Beyond reasonable doubt. Or as we say here: Bortom rimligt tvivel.
In this case there were reasonable doubt.
