Harrington Bodies

What a grand coach body these Harringtons were. well built and designed.
Vast majority were made for the AEC or Leyland Leopard chassis.
The company seemed to give up coach building when the owner died.
For many years now i have wondered what kind of bodies they would have made had they remained in business.
They were sure a leader in their time.
The Chinese gearbox in some models had some drivers puzzled though, Till they discovered where #6 was.
The AEC Harrington used to be a king of the road, real flying machines

Cavaliers & Grenadiers

I have to agree with you Bill.
The only Harrington bodies I'm familiar with are Cavaliers and Grenadiers, the former on Leopards with Ribble which I occasionally saw at Keswick in the late '60s & early '70s. I'm speaking from a purely asthetic point of view, as I know nothing about the physical construction of ANY bus/coach body, nor have I never rode on anything with a Harrington body. I suppose I look at (and think about) a coach/bus body in the same way as I look at a woman!!!

Quite right too John ... Nicely styled on top, attractive at the front with headlights set nicely. the impression of slimness down the sides and nice curve at the back end

Couldnt have put it better myself...LOl

Pointless Snippet Of Information (PSOI)

The Bedford VAL used in the original Italian Job film was bodied by Harrington:-

I know this is an old topic, but...

When I was at secondary school I had a 9 mile "commute". A local coach companies used to provide transport (in the years we were not using City of Oxford buses). In my early years we used to get the older buses in the "fleet". 32 Seat Leyland Comet or 33 seat Commer Avenger even a half cab Dennis... all the old stuff. On rare occasions (when they had all the coaches booked I presume) we had the privelege of using a Keith Coaches' (Aylesbury) 36' Cavalier or Grenadier. We could actually all sit down! A completely different world to the usual run of the mill stuff we were provided with.

Another local coach firm (the owner used to drive a coach we went to school on) Motts of Aylesbury used to have a Harrington Legionaire. After its useful life was over it was parked out the back of their original depot. It eventually went so I am not sure what happened to it.

A quick Google search came up with the fact that this was in fact a Thames and apparently went into restoration.
