what bus

On November the 22nd in 1946 an aeroplane ripped off the top deck of
a Guy Arab Bristol Tramways double decker carrying a full complement of
RAF personnel from RAF Locking into Weston-Super-Mare. The bus did not overturn and 7 airmen were killed, all on whom were on the top deck.
Does anyone know the bus involved, please? It is one of the series numbered
3630 to 3641 (HHU 352-359 or HHW 13-15).
Many enquiries and much research have (so far) proved fruitless: one of
the more knowledgeable Bristol Vintage Bus Club members suggests 3632
but this is based on the fact that there is a picture of that particular vehicle
on it's side with 'Locking Camp' displayed on the destination blind: had the
bus in this incident been turned over there would have been many more casualties. In actual fact none of the lower deck windows were broken...
Many thanks. = Sloway.

Is this link any good to you? http://www.freewebs.com/raflocking/a...s/show/2991026 it gives reference to where a picture might be obtainable.

Many thanks for your response: I have seen that exchange re the accident but it doesn't
throw any light on what particular bus was involved.

The contemporary newspaper report photograph might identify the vehicle.

Most newspapers hold an archive of issues.

Hi: what photographs of the accident that were published only show the bus sideways on.
The 'Buses' magazine had not appeared at that time and what transport magazines there
were focused mainly on trade articles/adverts. There is nothing relevant from BTCC material held at the Bristol Record Office either.

Would the records of the buses original owner have passed over to any company taking over the original operator? Perhaps if you try nearer today's date you might find it in someone more recents archive, I hope I'm making sense. :D:D:rolleyes:

I think I have explored that avenue - and all the other avenues I can think of. My best hope is someone who has much of the information of a BTCC 'fanatic' who died several
years ago. He (the someone) needs time to access all his data....
Thanks again...
Sloway.
