Sports car manufacturer Aston Martin is joint winner of a competition to design a new Routemaster bus for London.
They share the £25,000 first prize with bus, coach and truck design firm Capoco Design, based in Wiltshire.

Capoco RMXL – the Routemaster for the London 2012 Olympics

Mechanical Systems:
Engine: Hydrogen SI turbocharged engine, 82kw (110hp) rating
Generator: Permanent magnet flywheel, rated at 95kW continuous
Transmission: Series hybrid electric traction
Battery: Lithium Ion 97kW continuous and 160kW intermittent ratings
Drive Motors: Twin, wheel mounted permanent magnet drive motors
Front Suspension: Independent air suspension
Rear Suspension: Beam axle with air suspension
Steering: Integral steering gear with electro-hydraulic power
Brakes: 430mm disc with air actuation
Chassis & Body:
Aluminium integral structure with extruded beams and rolled shear panels.
Stainless steel subframes for quick removal.
Bonded sandwich floors and roof structures.
Bonded glazing in lower and upper saloon.
