fuel autovac

can anyone remind me about fuel autovacs. my guy ant has not run for about 10 years, i think i just need to fill the float chamber on carb, top up autovac on bulkhead and make sure some fuel is in the tank and try it , i think gravity draws fuel from the autovac to the carb and the vacuum caused in the autovac will then pull the fuel from the tank, or have i forgotten something?
