Do any of you 60ish year old remember the ads for the launch of the S-type (Big) Bedford in the '50s Every Daily newspaper you picked up had ads for it, line drawings probably supplied by Bedford, so how many people looking through the paper "Oh I must nip out and buy a Bedford". :D
As a youngster I thought these ads were great.

I certainly remember the 'Big' part of the name, though my juvenile mind didn't understand the true meaning of the word, I kept on referring to them as Big Bedfords for a long long time (and I still think of them thus).
It must have been an effective advertising campaign for u to be discussing it all these years later.

My guess would be 1953 - but I'll check and report back . . .

Oops - it was 1950 (for 1951 model year I suppose):-
The S-type, known as "the Big Bedford" was introduced at the 1950 Commercial Motor Show. This took Bedford up to the 7-ton class

Seems Bedfords are popular in certain communities:- http://www.travellerhomes.co.uk/?s=48
